About the blacksmiths: MAC

MAC is owned and operated by Mr. Kobayashi junior after his father, who managed to run the company very far. MAC is forged in the city of Sakai, Japan. MAC has a long tradition of craftsmanship that dates back to the forging of the old samurai swords.

Each and every knife is constantly hand sharpened and quality checked before they leave production. The MAC knives have a high carbon content, which maintains sharpness, while chromium and molybdenum make the knives corrosion resistant.

MAC makes many different series of kitchen knives, and here you can get everything from the standard chef series up to the very expensive honyakisme-made knives. Therefore, many people know about MAC and they are widely known among chefs as their favorite.

We have a very good contact with MAC, and have been shown around their forge several times. Despite the great skill of the blacksmiths, the priority is still to produce as much as possible by hand. Due to the high quality requirements, only a very few are allowed to sharpen the finished forged knife steels. This helps to ensure that all the finished MAC knives have the same, sharp quality.

It's always great to visit the MAC people. It is a real Japanese company with all its subtleties. Their forge and warehouse are located far out in the countryside, but despite the long journey by both train and car, it is always an experience.
