About the blacksmiths: Mr. Fuji

Mr. Fujii, Fujii Hamono makes some of the sharpest knives we - and you - have ever seen. He forges knives in the traditional types of steel such as ginsan, Aogami and shirogami. We first met him through Bjorn, who owns Tower Knives in Osaka, where Mr. Fuji has its small forge about half an hour's drive away.

Mr. Fujii does not speak English, so the language barrier can make communication difficult. However, the craft speaks its own language. He has invited us inside several times to make knives with him. He is especially known for making his precious "Black Damascus" which can be seen in the pictures below.

The green liquid seen in some of the pictures is not Mr. Fujii's secret potion, however, is an anti-rust liquid that the knife blades are in while they are in the manufacturing process.
